Godstone dev log 16: Update 0.4


Hello people!

With version 0.3 that launched a week ago, the new area Black Library was introduced to the game. This contained a new boss, new enemies, new soundtrack and new mechanics. It also marks the last content that will be added to the first area of Godstone, meaning there will not be added anymore new stuff to the game itself until the game foundation is finished.

With that said, there will still be added more levels over time for you to explore.

I have chosen to do this so I can focus entirely on improving the foundation of the game, which is what I will let you in on right below!




Levelling Up

Levelling up has huge value in the game, but it is not as fun as it could be. Therefor, I am going to put a lot of work into the experience of levelling up, making it feel more rewarding and fun. First of all, I will add a bunch of new skills to the game including making spells bounce on walls, sacrificing max health to get even stronger skills, lifesteal, new ways to get more energy, and a bunch of other ways to manipulate with how spells work. This will give you more freedom to build your own playstyle. Of course, as you can only choose between 5 skills at the time when levelling up, the skills will be randomized.



The bounce skill works perfectly, and affects both spells, item effects and masteries!


A thing I have noticed is that despite players enjoying the skillpoints system, I have not given enough feedback when a skillpoint is available. So,  I am going to make the skillpoints menu appear automatically when you level up and pause the game in the background.




Altered Relics

Relics that players often do not use will be remade to work together with the new skills so that they will come more into play.



On top of that, all Relics that create missiles are now affected by your range stat (as well as the effects of all the new skills).





Combat

Another big focus of this update is the combat system which will recieve quite a makeover. The combat can be slightly boring, aspecially the player's melee attack, so it will be altered a lot. On top of that, there will be added new sound effects for both spells, bosses and enemies as well as more visual feedback overall. Enemies that cause a melee attack will also charge forward when attacking, engaging the player more while making the attack easier to avoid. Enemies such as Bandits (the guy that throws knives) and Golems (The solely melee attack enemy) will also recieve a makeover so that their animations are easier to read and therefor their attacks more predictable.



A bunch of spell will also recieve a visual makeover to make them 'feel' better. One of the ways I will try to do this is to improve the feel of impact, more visual feedback when spells damage enemies and faster missiles.


This update is experimental and will change the game quite a lot, so it will of course take some time to develop and new bugs will occur. Your feedback is very important and super appreciated, so if there is anything you like or want to see improved, just let me know! ^^
