Godstone dev log 12: New Area!


Hello there!

Game design is hella tough, and it is difficult to make a game that is both challenging, has enough content while still being intuitive and fun to play. Feature creep is a lurking trap and a bad quickfix I am trying my best to avoid. 

Therefor, in the next update, there will both be new things added and some things that did not work, removed from the game.



New Area

The biggest new thing that is being added is the brand new area that will be introduced to the Ruins to give it more flair and variation! The new area, Black Library, will appear in the middle of the Ruins, and will stretch from level 8 - 12. All the maps that were originally in those levels have been moved to other levels, so they will still appear.
The new area contains its own tileset, props, new mechanics, 2 brand new enemies and its own 6 minute soundtrack!

And to spice it up even further, the area will also introduce the final miniboss, Alakai. This means that after him, there will not be added any more bosses to the first area.






New Enemies
As mentioned above, the Black Library introduces 2 brand new enemies:

Bone Walkers

Little skeletal warriors that will either spawn as spearthrowers or swordsmen. As spearthrowers, they have a ranged horizontal attack, while the swordsmen only have a melee attack. They do not have much health, but are fast and can quickly deal damage.




Neferin Lords

A floating culmination of flesh and bones, the Neferin Lord has no offensive abilities and only little health. However, it can curse the player, reducing their resistances by 40%. On top of that, when it dies, it spreads blood on the ground that chills the player and heals enemies that step in it.






Remastering Consumables

What I have noticed over some time is how people use the various consumables in the game, and what i noticed was that aspecially spell scrolls were hardly ever used and players were often confused by them. So, I have decided to follow the phrase 'less is more' and will remove all spell scrolls except the most powerful ones. On top of that, all energy potions have been replaced with a single type of energy potion that simply restores all your energy.

This means that consumables will now have a bigger impact, will be easier to memorise and the strongest consumables have a higher drop rate.
On top of that, I will also update most consumable icons so that they are easier to recognise from each other.
